So it’s been about one year since we Lucy came to our house. As everyone knows, she’s a Mama’s girl, and I really hope that she likes living with us. I love her very much! Here’s a list of random things about the L-dog, Lucy Yamagoosey.
1. She’s got such short corgi legs. I like when she’s really getting a good nap in, and she lays on her back. It always makes me smile to peer out of my blankets and see legs up in the air.
2. She is the Defender of Catan. One thing that I’d like to work on is her guarding behavior. She plays Defender of Catan on the bed, trying to make sure that no rogue cats come near. And she’s also been defending her food lately. I want to say to her, if she understood English,”Lucy, the cats don’t like your food, so don’t worry about it! If anything, they should be guarding their food because any chance you get you like to chomp the cat food!” We have to keep the cat food high up so she doesn’t get it. I don’t think she has truly discovered the delicacy of cat poop yet, though. Sssshhh.
3. Lucy’s not too crazy about the dog park. I think what she does is fear aggression. The way she shows aggression is by showing her teeth and snarling silently. It’s funny to see Andy’s impression of this.
But once she gets to know other dogs, she tends to tolerate them. For instance, she seems to be okay with Seamus and Emmit, Marx, even Zachary. But that little white poodle down the street…and those pugs…nope! Not yet!
4. We’re attached at the hip. I don’t know if she’s just a nervous Nellie or if she just loves me a lot, but she follows me all around the house. Always, always. Andy says that when I’m not home from work yet, she doesn’t sit with him, but she waits on her dog bed in the bedroom.
5. After she’s done eating, she will usually jump up on the couch and burp in our faces. It’s funny!
6. Every time a doorbell rings, Lucy makes a bark. She goes, “RUFF!” It’s funny when it’s a doorbell on TV.
7. She doesn’t like rain. If there’s a moderate rain coming down, business will get taken care of real quick. We’ll open the door and watch her go outside and then come right back in, as if to say, “No way, man!” Then we have to coax her outside and walk her until she does her thing. How would she herd the cattle in Wales with behavior like that, huh?Â
8. Before Lucy, I never saw a dog squint their eyes in apparent enjoyment of being petted. Hilarious.
9. Beth-Ann spent one highly effective weekend teaching Lucy to sit. Before Beth-Ann resolved to succeed, we hadn’t been able to get her to sit on command. Now she’s a sittin’ banshee! Thanks, Beth-Ann!
10. Sometimes, if Lucy’s really fired up, she and I will run full speed down the street. We’ll do that until one of us can’t run anymore. It probably looks really kooky, because I’m usually smiling like a crazy person thinking about how funny it must look. It’s really fun.
Hooray for Lucy’s first anniversary!
Got the new Paragon Friday. Sweet as black strap molasses. Rode it all weekend. I loved the 07, thought it was amazing. I was concerned the new bike would be a let down because last years was SO GOOD. Well, it aint. The 08 is even better. Buy one.
Rode to work today. It was a good one. 16 degrees and 20+ mph winds. Tough. Funny.
You’d think they could find a chair for the 07 Tour champ, and since when was Levi going for the Pacman/Sean Penn/Colors look?
The political wars are intensifying. I don’t care what side you vote on or where you stand, everyone should go to factcheck. The only non-partisan site I’ve found. Read up. factcheck.org
Who knew Montel was down with the good eating habits. Interesting read.
Angelique, we should build this:

A photo-montage for your Monday morning: Carlos!

‘which I think is about average. $6,000 for a set of wheels these days… Anything under $6,000 you should probably not even go with it…’
WTF! a pretty funny interview on drunk cyclist.
Got the 08 race rig yesterday. Fisher Paragon. Got out for a 2.4 hours today. Thing is silly sick. The new G2 geometry is amazing. How could they make it better? Didn’t think it was possible. They did. Silly sick.
She actually didn’t react that bad. I thought I’d have it all cleaned up before she got home. But she beat me to it.
Here’s how to get your wife fired up:

Washing the bike in the shower! Yeah! It’s 10 degrees out. TEN. And I’ve got to clean the old paragon up cuz’ it’s out with the old. In with the new. I sold the Paragon for an 08 Paragon.

Here’s the obligatory over the shoulder ride shot.
Been getting back into commuting by bike. It’s just a completely different mind set, on the good days (most) you really cherish the ride in. Who needs a stiff espresso when your cruising along on your sweet new Soho watching the sunrise? Not me. It’s awesome. I’ve been taking the long way, about an hour ride. Way less traffic and idiots on the country roads then going to work via Hilliard-Rome. It’s pretty dumb, Hilliard-Rome is a very busy road on the west side. Tons of shopping, housing etc. But it has no sidewalk or shoulder for anything other then automobiles. One road over about 2-3 miles into the country is Alton Darby. It has a nice wide 5 foot shoulder most of its length. Great urban planning. So I ride a few miles out of my way to take the road less traveled. So back to commuting via bike. The Soho with panniers is the way to go. So fun cruising on the single speed with the ‘fat’ 28cc tires. I try to get all agro and shit on it but the panniers always go flying. I’ve got to find a better attachment technique. Nothing like catching some air on the way to work right!
Erin (my sister) sent this blog to me:

He makes you want to suck it up and dig deep when its 10 degrees out. Its tough! I rode on Wednesday and it was a balmy 16 degrees. I was a little under dressed and it took about 20 minutes to warm up but after that I wasn’t to bad. It was an hour ride, anything longer would have been nasty. Riding to work rocks, always puts you in a good mood.
Here’s a good quote from his blog:
Unless it’s severe enough to wreck your house or kill people, there is no “bad†weather. There’s just weather. Some is more comfortable, and some is less comfortable. It’s what you make of it.
And another good quote (not related at all):
Illegal aliens have always been a problem in the United States. Ask any Indian. – Robert Orben
In other news:
You want old school?
This post was inspired by Ernesto the solo goat and creepy friendly. Two awesome blogs I’ve been reading often lately.
So, we’re getting hungry, and Andy said he wanted pasta. So I decided to look up some restaurants on Vegan Masterlist to help with the decision. I like this website, because she writes to chain restaurants to find out what is vegan on their menu. It’s been vastly helpful to me so far, and it takes out some of the hassle of ordering out. Tonight, I suggest Macaroni Grill, because that bread they give you is killer, and they said it’s vegan.
Speaking of vegan eating, too bad we don’t live in Philly anymore. (You’ll never hear Andy saying that.) I found the website for this food truck, and it’s like, are you kidding?! Viva Las Vegans right where I used to work?! Shooooot! I wasn’t vegan when we lived in Philadelphia, but I sure should have been.

All you vegan athletes, have you seen this? Good nutritional info.

This is the most amazing website of right now:
hotchickswithdouchebags.com
I’m on a diet. It sucks.
I grew a beard. It doesn’t suck but does itch.
And riding to work is fun again.
Oh, I’m just loving this blog, wiksten-made. Jenny Gordy’s musings on fashion and craft and sewing and cats are adorable, inspiring, and spot-on. She has really good taste, and it looks like she has braces too! (Hopefully she hasn’t had them for five years and counting, like me!) She makes really nice things, too. So cute!
Andy told me that I need to just post more, and not worry about making sure I have a really long post with a lot of pictures. Well, that’s an idea. There’s lots of things that I’ve been wanting to blog about but just hadn’t done it yet.
I better go now, as I have to go to my weekly lovely Sunday brunch at Whole World. And I’m already running late.
