Got a new bike! Ha Ha! Yeah. A Trek Soho single speed. My beater/commuter/grocery getter/do it all and jump off the curb bike. Rode it to work today for the first time. It was nice not riding a race bike to work. More importantly, it was really nice having all my goods in the panniers rather then in a messenger bag. Very comfortable. I’ll have to tweak some things and get it dialed in. That stem is ugly and the seat post is terrible but the nice wide bars feel good and riding on 28cc tires is smooth. I hope to start riding to work 3-4 times per week through January and February, and with fenders slapped on this thing I hope it gets me out the door more.

That’s my first goal of 08’. Not to commute more but to try to get in crazy riding time this year. The last three years I have actually had the same amount of time in the saddle (about 340-360 hours/year). No wonder my results haven’t jumped up that much. Well, that’s not true I had a great year earlier in the season but really sucked it up from August till November. That was tough to deal with but no excuses right! So 08’ is going to be the year of LOTS of riding. I’m shooting for 440 for the year. It’s a lofty goal (for me). Stay tuned…

I want to eat here:

What a nice website!

A few things that make me smile even though there’s 4+ inches of snow on the ground, it’s cold, I have no interest in biking in this crap, and I’ve been dealing with this same crappy throat flem cough for to long.

Mellow music. Am I getting old? Is it just the season or what? Don’t know but I’ve been listening to lots of Charlotte Gainsbourg, Elliot Smith, The National, (old) Cat Power and Andrew Bird.

Belgium Boots. Well, that’s what I call them because all the fans, coaches and mechanics in Belgium wear them at muddy cross races. You know the $15 rubber farm boots that go almost to your knee. They have a little lining but not much. Not overboots. Just wear a pair of heavy wool socks and your golden. They’re great for so many applications. Easy to slip on and off. Work great in the snow, mud or anything between.

Cap City Cross. We did it! We created a Columbus series around teams, for racers and with great courses and tons of fun. Makes me smile.

Seeing Angelique’s smile tonight after she opens her x-mas present! Yeah, we’re celebrating early, so what.

Religious art always blows my mind. Here’s some amazing embroidered book covers.

More good book related stuff.

And not related at all: Pretty good inside scoop on Paris Rouibaix.

Weird dream. We were at a big huge fancy building downtown (in some random unknown city). Bethany (a ex co-worker) was meeting with sales people for her store to buy new clothes for next season and we were just hanging out. We (Angelique and I) weren’t really supposed to be there. It was like a sales meeting for there clothing lines. But Bethany let Angelique and I sit with her while she went over everything with the buyer. And the catalog was really cool, crazy design work. And there were all these high class NYC fashionista types all over. but then I got bored and went down stairs to the lobby. It was an amazingly sheek lobby. But then this guy and I started talking. He took me to this other floor and it was a strange tiki bar/party room with very low ceilings, bright blinking lights and expensive exotic wood. I had to duck the entire time  and we just ended up hanging out and drinking and he told me he worked there. But it was really low key, everyone just hung out at the tiki bar instead of working. And the tiki bar was really impressive and expensive. Well, the whole building was expensive. And then it turned out to be like 10pm and I thought ‘wow, what happened to the time’ and I went and found Angelique. She was pissed because we’d been at the tiki bar for like 12 hours! that’s it. weird dream.

If the guy across the road in the leather jacket was Angelique then this would be the best photo ever. Everything I ever needed in life.
