i was looking at design sponge today and was reminded of an artist that i’ve been liking. when i first noticed matte stephens’ art on etsy, i immediately fell in love with the stuff. i think that it will soon be time for me to buy something. will it be the owl or the suburban bear monster?

it’s already a month since we tied the knot. we promised we would post some photos of the wedding, so here are a couple. (if anyone has taken pictures, will you email me?) the photo above is one of my favorites. as you all know, we had our wedding may 26, 2007, at farm sanctuary in watkins glen, new york. i can speak for andy and myself when i say that it was a really nice time.
just look at how cute the reception looked! my sisters marissa and jackie, along with andy, marissa’s fiancee neil, and trisha’s boyfriend andrew really worked hard to make it look nice. they busted their butts, as a matter of fact.

in fact, i have a lot of people to thank for making it happen and be so wonderful. every single member of our families pitched in and were happy to help. it was amazing.

our cake turned out really cute, i think. priscilla at greenstar oasis co-op in ithaca hooked us up with a yummy vegan cake. and the caketopper i made looked great with it. yay playmobil!

too bad we almost forgot to cut the cake. we had already changed into something a little more comfortable when we were reminded to do it. so we have to settle for a photo like this, which is okay with me.

for me, the highlight of the trip is always, though, visiting the animals at the farm. we love that place, and it was a perfect backdrop for our wedding.

Race report from Sunday’s race at John Bryan State Park in Yellow Springs:
Today was a funny race. Not your typical mountain bike race. I knew going into it there would be some strategy since you really can’t pass on the singletrack sections, to twisty. The fire roads would be key to gaining places. On a flat course I knew I could ride descent and heck it was my birthday, maybe some luck?!?! I kicked it hard from the start and felt really fresh but a Smittys team guy beat me to the first singletrack. I got the whole shot but with such a long road section one guy came around me. So we entered the first singletrack and I felt comfortable riding 2nd wheel. very comfy (its a lot easier to follow!). So the first road section came and I punched it realizing ‘hey you can’t pass on the singletrack’. so I had a plan: ride the singletrack pretty conservatively and hammer the road sections so no one could pass. I’d recover through most of the singletrack sections, go fast enough to not let people ride over me but slow enough to save a ton for the road sections. Each road section I’d sprint out of and get a nice gap not allowing anyone to enter the singletrack first. Well, it worked! I sprinted to the line and held off 2nd place. I’m sure I frustrated a lot of riders but in the end a win is a win. I’ll take it!

I never thought I’d be that guy who wins on his birthday! but I did! fantastic!

This one is especially tough. I hope life never gets this insane for me. I can’t imagine it.
This lady does some amazing artwork.

Well, party’s over! Angelique and I made it back to Columbus on Friday evening. And we’re both back to work. The wedding and everything else was amazing. One of the best days of my life. Maybe the best. Probably. It was everything I hoped and more. Then we got to chill at the Farm Sanctuary for a few days, very relaxing. And finally we headed to NEPA for a few days of visiting old friends and family. Thanks everyone for all of your help. Pictures to come soon.
