in honor of our sixth anniversary, here is my list of my favorite things about the man i love (in random order):

1. the way he plays air guitar

2. how he walks around in my cow bedroom slippers in the morning

3. his high pitched singing voice

4. he can explain stuff real good

5. his patented dance moves which incorporate the snapping of fingers

6. he’s kooky

so we’re going to eat dinner in a few minutes, but i thought i’d check some things out. i found this site called blobby farm that is the best. there’s lots of really great stuffed animals. i saw them at wholly craft here in columbus, too. they’re made of such nice fleece. this one here is named “charlie sheen.” of course! i will take some of these guys into my home very soon.

anyway, on that site, there was a link to something that really made my day. you see, i have the good ol’ sunday blahs (a phenomenon in that i hate sundays only because i have to go to work on monday.) but this is the greatest. andy will love it too: pancake mountain with ted leo. there’s actually a lot of good bands on there, too. looks like it’s out of washington, d.c. it’s genius.

I road the Cat 5 race, 3 laps. Nice little route. 4 miles of generally flat clean roads with a few rollers leading to a short wall to power up and then a speedy downhill and flats back to ‘downtown’ Sugar Grove. Small turnout in the 5s, about 14 guys. I was amazed how slow the race started, only 20 miles I thought it would be intense from the gun but the first lap was soft peddling. I’m use to cross races which are a mad vomit inducing hammerfest for 50 minutes, but we where chilling at 18mph for most of the first lap. We lost only one person on the climb. Regrouped and rode a steady pace around course. It got a little quicker for a short time before the rollers but was still very tranquil. No one attacked the entire race. The second time we broke up a little more on the climb and I know I wasn’t firing on all cylinders and a gap of about 15 feet opened at the top of the climb, but being 210 pounds makes going downhill an effortless task. I caught back on the group with no problems. Then at the beginning of the last lap, the cat 1-2 race caught and passed us except for a knuckle head who thought it was wise to try to sit on their paceline. So we all had to cruising along with them, the cat 1-2’s where yelling at him and trying to force him to drop and the 5’s where all cursing him to drop off also. In the end it was a knuckle head move, he blew up on the climb and finished 5th or 6th. He probably could have won if he held back and attacked on the flats over the climb. He was riding strong but stupid. I ended up cracking slightly the last time up the hill (excuse time: no sleep from thunderstorms and spooked cats leads me to get up at 4am and STAY up and with Tuesday and Thursday hard rides my legs where stiff. Excuse time over). Bombed back down the backside pulled as hard as I could to catch other shelled riders, got caught by the guy who tried to race with the 1-2’s, and latched on to him with two others guys we picked up. But I was seeing cross eyed and just sat up as we went into town. Rolled across the line for 8th place (I think).

It was fun, but nothing amazing. I was amazed by how easy it was for the first half of the race, it was like tea and biscuits ‘let’s get to know each other’ time! I think I’ll continue to try my hand at road racing but cross is where it’s at for me. I think the fact that you’re always racing, no matter if it’s for 1st place or 21st place makes it so much more fun and interesting then road.

aw!
so i just started watching reruns of lisa loeb’s reality show #1 single. at first i didn’t know if i could get into it. i mean, i really had to question her taste, because some of the guys she dated weren’t anything special, in my opinion. but then came the episode that brought me to tears…episode 6, when she and michael panes get together. i just loved it. i was thinking, “oh! finally, lisa!” but it looks like it didn’t work out after all, because he moved to los angeles for a job, and lisa couldn’t go. so just like that! it’s over! oh! my heart! terrible terrible.

so i was doing my daily reading of design*sponge, and that brought me to a link to a blog called it’s (k)not wood. it’s a cute site devoted to faux bois. (neato!) but there i found out some troubling information: paul frank got fired from paul frank industries! how is that even possible?! this is the link that explained the situation somewhat, from paul frank’s point of view. hmm. now i don’t know what to think. i am a big fan of paul frank. the colors, the aesthetic, the overall cuteness. there’s some messed up stuff going on there. julius doesn’t deserve that!

do you know what i need asap? the “brace face” julius t-shirt. what’s that you say? that i’m not a pre-teen little girl anymore? well, no one told me! speaking of which, today, in target, i spied a very cute hello kitty phone, with miss kitty dressed up like a bumblebee. and it was on sale for $14.98! but the fact is that we do not need a phone at all, much less a pink plastic corded one. still though! there was another girl who was only maybe a couple of years younger than me who saw it and wanted it. she was really cute about it because she was going to let me have it because i saw it first. even though andy was like, “puh-leez.” i told her she definitely should buy it. it made her happy and i’m glad that she did buy it after all. ha. i guess you had to be there!

I just upgraded to wordpress 2.0.2 and this is the first blog. who cares? i know. it’s more of a test then anything. here’s a photo to make you smile (maybe).

Sliding Down the Volcano

Well, I figured out one thing. don’t do a hard return while entering a photo description or it will automatically load the image! so yeah. the photo doesn’t explain how steep and loose this really was. I didn’t fall, it was actually super fun to just sit down and slide. It was STEEP, like 60-70 degrees steep! Like stand straight up, stick your hand out horizontally and touch the ground steep! The volcanic sand was about ankle deep and you could just float over it. Like slow motion sledding. Didn’t hurt at all.

Well, it looks like the weather has broken finally. The first week of constant 60+ degree weather has now come and gone! Pretty soon our garden (Mom and I are planting a massive garden) will be giving us some yummy lettuce and fresh green beans! And soon after that cucumbers, tomatoes and all sorts of goodness. stay tuned! Untill then here’s a good old lazy link drop:

I finally joined del.icio.us

it’s great to see what’s popular compared to your tags. it’s taking me a bit to shift my thinking to their tagging system rather then traditional bookmarks, but I like it. Here’s my list: http://del.icio.us/iamandy

Here’s a few good finds:

I gotta find time to listen to this:
Fresh Air: Dinner. An Author Considers the Source
I wish her podcasts where free. oh well.

I always respect Mr. Zinn opinion, lets see what he says about the SRAM road kit.

This little list of vegan entree’s is amazing helpful. Btw. Being vegan is still great. It took 2-3 weeks for my body to adjust but now I feel better and it’s really easy.

A fascinating series of religious maps on our country.

It’s a little buggy, but it runs on iCal. Just what I’ve been looking for! I’m 30 years old now, I can be excited by calendars right? Google Calendar

I could save $6 per month with this thing!!! Should I build it?

Paris Roubaix is OLD SCHOOL.
This Sunday is Paris Roubaix, the best bicycle race in the world. Period. That’s right it’s better then the Tour de France. All you Lance lovers don’t be playa haters. Paris Roubaix is old school. Mud, sweat, cow shit, cobbles, old drunk french guys, wind. I hope the weather is ugly, it’s been a few years since we’ve seen a mudfest. And the FOREST OF ARENBERG is back in it! Old school. So watch it and love it.

naughty pets!

yes, i flipped my lid when i saw target’s easter displays in their full glory. these bunnies are the best! i’m a big, big fan of scary stories, and if left to my own devices, our house would be filled with these stuffed animals. i seriously wrestled with the urge to accost a target employee and ask him/her what they do with their displays after the holiday is over. that’s because I WANT the fiberboard cutouts. but i know better. they wouldn’t let me have them even if i asked nicely. (at gap, we weren’t allowed to give out the marketing.) so i guess i’m going to have to scour their dumpsters on april 16th.
